The Wheel of Time Series - by Robert Jordan

Book Review, © Copyright 2003, Jim Loy

There seem to be many good fantasy series, of various degrees of seriousness. The Wheel of Time series is fairly serious (some of the good guys die), and is very popular. It is one of my favorites. What would you do if you found that you were the answer to prophecy, a kind of messiah? Run for the hills, right? But evil and great events (and insanity?) follow Rand wherever he goes. And even the good guys want to control Rand for their own purposes. There is a lot going on, simultaneously. And the ugly politics often gets very interesting. The books are good and thick, and good.

I haven't read the tenth one yet. I see that it got some bad reviews. The entire series does seem to be going downhill, as less and less happens in each book. But they are still good stories.
