This book is subtitled, "The Hunt for Big-Time Art Fakes." Mr. Hoving is a "Fake Buster", which is a person who shows that certain works of art are fakes. The book describes many case histories of fakes and real works that had been accused of being fakes. Most of these cases involve Mr. Hoving, in one way or another. And some of the objects that he says are fakes are not admitted as fakes by the museums involved. It's good detective work. But, I won't list the cases here.
Thomas Hoving also wrote Making The Mummy's Dance, the fascinating (and sometimes disgusting, when he describes politics and "toadying") account of his time as Director of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
