The Maltese Falcon - by Dashiell Hammett

Book Review, © Copyright 1999, Jim Loy

I thought I had read this book before. Maybe I had. I know I bought it. It is a very very good book, well written. Sam Spade is the man in control (and in love) in a bewildering situation, with hundreds of lies being told by almost everyone. One of my favorite tough guy responses: "You have always ... a smooth explanation ready." "What do you want me to do, learn to stutter?" I remember hearing that line in the movie, too. This book is one of the true classics of American literature.
