Buck Up, Suck Up . . . and Come Back When You Foul Up - by
James Carville and Paul Begala
Book Review, © Copyright 2002, Jim Loy
This is a book about winning, how to win. The advice looks very good,
and practical. These guys are political campaign strategists, campain managers.
Their examples are mostly from political campaigns, won and lost. But much of
the advice would seem to carry over into all phases of life. The chapters:
- Rule 1 - Don't quit. Don't ever quit.
- Rule 2 - Kiss ass.
- Rule 3 - Kick ass.
- Rule 4 - Frame the debate.
- Rule 5 - Understand the difference between strategy and tactics.
- Rule 6 - Be open.
- Rule 7 - Know how to communicate.
- Rule 8 - Work your ass off.
- Rule 9 - Turn weakness into strength.
- Rule 10 - Be nimble, Jack.
- Rule 11 - Know how to recover when you really screw up.
- Rule 12 - Know what to do when you win.
By the way, rule #1 is the most important.
