These are murder mysteries, which take place during the reign of Queen Hatshepsut, of ancient Egypt. The first few stories take place in the Sudan, which was ruled by Egypt, and the later stories take place in Egypt (A Path of Shadows takes place on a trek to the Red Sea). Lieutenant Bak, of the Medjay police, investigates murders. The first book, The Right Hand Of Amon, is particularly good.
