Zinserling Family History
The following data was provided by Charles F. Zinserling and written to text file By Jason M. Zinserling

George Mike Zinserling , the oldest member of the Zinserling Family of which we have any record, was born in Erfort, Saxony, Germany on Dec. 7 1851. He learn the trade of cabinet maker by apprenticeship while still in Germany. When in his early twenties, he emigrated to the United States and eventually settled in Texas.

Here in Goliad, Goliad County Texas, he met and married Caroline Johanna Praeger, the daughter of Louis and Louise Praeger, who was born in Goliad on October 2,1862. They were married in Georgetown, Texas and daughters Frieda and Bertha were born there.

About 1880, George, with wife Caroline (commonly called Carrie) and two daughters moved to Oregon and settle at Oregon City (or what as was then called Clackmas Heights.) Here, in the ensuing years, six additional children were born to George and Carrie; Matilda, Clarence, Estella, George, Charles and a baby sister who died in infancy.

Both here and in Texas, George followed his trade building houses but preferably doing fine finishing work or cabinets. His youngest son Charles, can recall the whole wall of his shop being hung with various planes used in those days to make fancy molding and of watching while his father made elaborate alters and other furniture to be use in churches. At one time he was also employed by the Hawley Pulp & Paper Company (Now Publishers) as a fine Carpenter.

The older children married and raised families and became scattered. While the younger children were still at home, George became estranged** from them and lived by himself in Oregon City. Carrie somehow kept the family together until they were old enough to marry and make a home of their own. Charles made a home for his mother, in the later years, until her death on Jan. 7 1924.

George Paul Zinserling, next older son than Charles, became an accomplished mechanic and millwright and held down responsible jobs in various parts of the country. After his release from service in World War I, Charles become a tug boat operator for Western Transportation Company, a subsidiary of Crown Willamette Paper Co. (Not Crown Zellerbach Corp.) at the west Linn Mill. On October 10, 1925, Charles was married to Frances Elizabeth Schechla at Wilsonville, Oregon. In 1929, Charles was transferred to the paper mill at Camas, Washington and here as, supervisor of river operations, he worked until his retirement.

In 1921 George Mike Zinserling returned to his native Germany and there he lived until April 1, 1935 when he passed away.
