Arthur Linda Sago

On The Way to Size 6

Let's face it. How many of us have shallots and arugula in our refrigerators? I certainly do not!

I will be the first to give credit where more than ample credit is due. The developers of the low carbohydrate food plans have given us a gift beyond measure...a way to loose weight and keep it off. Many of the recipes one finds sound wonderful, but are not attainable with the ingredients I find in my kitchen. As I plan to stay on this program for the rest of my life, I was prompted to look at my own repertoire of recipes and I found I could easily adapt them, following the "formula."

Success was attained, as many days at work I was asked..."What is it today? You are making me so hungry?" The day came when the office door swept open and a hungry-looking young man sprinted to the microwave door, flung it open, and gazed at the contents of the magic black box. It was embarrassing, funny and gratifying all at the same time. Also, enlightening. If these recipes could engender this much response, they must be good. I know I get hungry reading them.

Linda at 227 pounds I know these recipes work...I have lost 100 lbs, yes, 100 lbs...

HOW I DID IT!

1. I made a total commitment to this food plan. I had been heavy for too many years! There was another life out there!

2. I planned for success, totally! No turning back!

3. I planned my eating, especially in the early stages. I simply did not buy anything I could not eat, and predetermined what I would eat when dining out. And ate this, period! Every time I was sorely tempted by the wonderful high carbed foods all around me, I asked myself if eating this wonderful piece of cherry pie with ice cream would help or hinder me. End of debate.

4. The scale is still under the sink. I noted my first weight, and weighed myself approximately every 6 months. There is too much daily variation with us lovely ladies, and the every 6-month weight loss total was enough to keep me going!

5. Patience and realistic expectations are part of any weight-loss program. It took me 45 + years to reach my highest unhealthy weight. I simply could not expect that the excess me would disappear overnight.

6. I have not gone off the plan. Life-long weight loss is a life choice. I if return to my former eating habits, the weight will return. I know how my body works.

7. I give myself a treat, periodically. Every few weeks I totally enjoy a toasted bagel with cream cheese! Or a burrito, or a chunk of winter squash, complete with brown sugar!

8. Life does go on, and there is nothing wrong with an occasional indulgence, but I go right back to the food plan. If I indulge myself too often, there will again be too much of me!

9. Long-term weight loss is a combination of perspective and daily choices! Focus today on the small choices and don’t look any further than this! Each day’s smaller choices will culminate in A SMALLER, HEALTHIER AND HAPPIER YOU! YOU CAN DO THIS!!!
