Hi, my name is Mike from Gallatin, Tennessee. Thanks to ESPN the Mag. I have had the chance to read of your sons tragic accident. First off, I would like to express my family's deepest sorrows. I am an 18 year old pitcher, that has played American Legion ball since a Little Leaguer.

I know the feeling that Brandon had about pitiching. We know as pitchers that, we have everything to lose, but everything to gain. I felt that same feeling before, and I felt that when I closed the State Championship game on one days rest after the start the days before. It was that feeling that makes us smile and says give me the ball. That is what comes with the pitching role and we understand that. We are vulnerable to bad records, bad era, and bad stats. Pitchers have the chance to lose everything, but life should not even have a chance to be lost.

Like many pitchers, I am sure we have been scared about come backers before. Then said it won't happen to me. And the bat companies say it won't happen. Well Mr. Darby, it did!!! I think that the rep. from Easton is full of crap!!! The injuries that he says that comes from wood, would not of been fatal. And when he talks about the comparrison of wood to aluminum, there are a couple of things he left out. People point the finger at the aluminum bat because they cause fatal or life-threatning injuries. People say it's apart of the game when it comes to wood, because you get up after the play and throw ice on it and come back to play the game another day.

The only way I see taking the Aluminum bats down is by boycoting them. Yes, this is an extreme measure, but it comes in an extreme time of need. Along with you, I don't want to see Brandon's death just be put up as a statistic. I hope we can change the game back to it's originial state. Brandon is in my team's, family's, and church's prayers. Once again, I am in deep sorrow!!! I will wear his number 11 on my game hat when I play from now on in honor of him! May God Bless us and our troubles...

In Christ,

Michael
