Description

Verdict: Excellent just for the fragrance - blooms are killers too - worth the extra work to keep powdery mildew at bay.

Acquired: 1997

Brand:

Bush

Growth habit : 3 to 4 ft tall x 3 ft wide - good steady grower - new growth shows up earlier each spring.

Leaves:

Disease Resistance: Blackspot is only a problem here on new or stressed plants. Powdery mildew is the main problem and I try to spray the roses that get pm with fungicide every 2 weeks or so when we have cool, dry nights. Granada will get pm if not sprayed here. It was our ultimate pm magnet until it got established. Granada will still get the stuff but not even close to being as bad as it was the first 3 or 4 years. Timeless and Dream Yellow are our worst magnets now.

Hardiness: Winter tender at first - hardiness is better now but I still mound mulch on it.

Blooms

Fragrance: Strong - intoxicating scent

Flushes: Good - 25 to 35 - blooms open pretty flat but still look good

Repeat: Good since becoming established - 5 to 6 weeks - repeat was slow the first few years

Vase life: Decent - about 5 days

Silly Stuff

Never liked photos I saw of Granada before we got it. We only brought it home because it was a Gamble Fragrance Award winner. So glad we did. Granada is one of a kind.
