Description

Verdict: Very good rose - Garden Party is a hardy bloom machine in spite of having obvious rose mosaic virus.

Acquired: 1999

Brand:

Bush

Growth habit : 4 to 5 ft tall x 4 ft wide - vigorous with thick foliage that shows rmv all season.

Leaves:

Disease Resistance: Blackspot is only a problem here on new or stressed plants. Powdery mildew is the main problem and I try to spray the roses that get pm with fungicide every 2 weeks or so when we have cool, dry nights. GP will get pm if not sprayed here. Not a pm magnet but it will get a touch of the stuff.

Hardiness: Good - always has green cane above the snowline

Blooms

Fragrance: Strong - borderline stinker - blooms have a loose form when opened that still looks good.

Flushes: Very good - 40 to 50

Repeat: Good - 5 to 6 weeks

Vase life: Good - about a week

Silly Stuff

For some reason Deb got stuck on thinking of the Ricky Nelson song 'Garden Party' when she was around this rose. GP is nicknamed Ricky here and that is why the filenames of the photos start with ric....
