Hybrid Tea 1981 Jack E. Christensen & Herbert C. Swim
Apricot blend - 25 to 30 petals
First Prize x Dr. A. J. Verhage (aka Golden Wave)
ARS rating 7.0
Verdict: Excellent rose that isn't supposed to be hardy enough to survive here.
Acquired: 1997
Brand:
Bush
Growth habit : 4 ft tall x 3 ft wide - vigorous grower with lots of canes once established.
Leaves:
Disease Resistance: Blackspot is only a problem here on stressed plants. Powdery mildew is the main problem and I try to spray the roses that get pm with fungicide every 2 weeks or so when we have cool, dry nights. Brandy will get pm if not sprayed here. Not a pm magnet but it will show up.
Hardiness: Gave Brandy lots of TLC and protection the first 5 years. I still pile extra snow on her just in case but she seems much hardier now.
Blooms
Fragrance: Moderate
Flushes: Very good - usually 25 to 30 - Brandy had a couple with 40+ in 2004
Repeat: Good - 5 to 6 weeks - much better the last 4 years, Brandy was on the slow side the first 5 or 6 years.
Vase life: Good - almost a week
Silly Stuff
A friend that liked our Brandy got one about 5 years ago and it is doing fine here too.
