American Dream has been a decent garden rose since we got it in 1999. It took a couple years to get established. Flushes were small (6 - 10 blooms) and repeat was pretty slow, about 7 - 8 weeks until new blooms. Bloom production is better now (12 - 20) and turnaround time is faster, around 6 weeks. Faster turnaround is important to us. A rose that gives us 3 sets of blooms makes me a lot happier than one with a slower repeat that we only get 2 from. Blooms are not very fragrant but do have a vase life of over a week.

2003 was the first year AD was among the first of our roses to bloom in spring. It was slow to start growing after winter and usually opened 2 to 3 weeks after the early bloomers.

Acquired: 1999

Brand:

Bush

Growth habit : 3 to 4 ft tall x 3 ft wide - not a vigorous grower, just slow ,steady growth

Leaves:

Disease Resistance: Blackspot is only a problem here on stressed plants. Powdery mildew is the main problem and I try to spray the roses that get pm with fungicide every 2 weeks or so when we have cool, dry nights. AD will get pm if not sprayed here. Not a pm magnet but it will show up and the bush has gotten pretty well covered when I was lazy.

Hardiness: Needs protection

Blooms

Fragrance: Slight

Flushes: Decent - 12 to 20

Repeat: Average to a little slow - 6 to 7 weeks

Vase life: Decent - almost 5 days - Deb doesn't remember using many the last couple years and thinks that is ballpark vase life for AD

Silly Stuff
