General Internet Guides

There are an array of guides available on the Internet about the Internet. Here are some guides that I found especially useful. By clicking the title (in hypertext), you will bedirected to the guide. You can read it online, download it and read it later (select File and Save), or save it using Bookmark.

The EFF Guide to the Internet (formerly the Big Dummy's Guide).A guide to the Internet from the Electronic Frontier Foundation, a non-profit civil liberties organization dedicated to keeping the Internet free from censorship and government control.

Zen and the Art of the Internet by Brendan Kehoe. A beginner's guide to the Internet.

The OnlineWorld by Odd de Presno. I have not had a chance to review this book,but it has a link that allows easy downloading. Be sure to select the text(.txt) file rather than the compressed file (.zip) if you want it inreadily readable form.

There are some good guides explaining the basics of modems and the connection of the Internet using SLIP/PPP protocols that are very informative. They will allow you to understand and optimize your computer's link to your ISP (Internet service provider).

Personal Internet Access Using SLIP or PPP, How You Use It, How it Works, by Frank Hecker. This guide will be transferred to your computer by File Transfer Protocol (FTP) if you select it. It is about 114k in size.

Data Communications FAQEverything you want to know about modem operations is explained in this guide. You will learn about comm ports and gain tips on how you can improve your modem performance.
